We ask that swimmers entering the junior and senior teams be able to swim 50m unassisted to join. They do not need to know all 4 strokes.
If your child is interested and you are unsure where their abilities fit, reach out! We do an evaluation and help guide them to be a great seahorse member.

DISCLAIMER: If your child is found to be at a substantially lower level than the required level of the program they registered for, they will not be able to continue at the discretion of the Kimberley Seahorse Swim Club. We are unable to guarantee a spot in another program if this is to occur. Please consider the requirements carefully.
The fall session will run from Sept.16 - Dec. 19
Mondays 4-5pm and Thursdays 5-6pm
Winter session runs Jan. - end of April.
Novice Program will be for age 4-7 swimmers to join in the fun. These practices will be 45 minutes in the leisure pool gaining strength and skill. Your child will have time in the lane pool to get used to the depth and swimming the full length with assistance near by.
Novice Seahorses will have the opportunity to compete at meets, but please check with the head coach prior to registering to ensure we have enough older swimmers to support our Novice crew in the water.
If your super swimmer would like to swim during the maintenance season not just in the summer, please reach out.
PLEASE NOTE: We do want to ensure everyone's success in the pool, so we do have a trial system in place for this reason. First step is to have a swim test completed by the lifeguards at the pool. Following the approval of the guard, we would invite the swimmer to train 4x over 2 weeks to see the intensity compared to ability. Our first priority is safety of the swimmers, followed quickly by the joy of participating in a physically demanding sport. The swim club is not a replacement for swim lessons.
Regionals: Castlegar
Provincials: Prince George
To be able to qualify for provincials, swimmers must have participated in one meet during the season and have finished on the podium at regionals.
At this time we do not have a masters program up and running, but it is in the works! Stay tuned.
That is entirely up to you, some parents do and some parents drop off. We just need to ensure we keep with the pool protocols, no parents on deck. If your child requires support in the changerooms, please be available for them.
At meets, it is imperative that your child makes it to all of their events. There is no one coordinating this part for your child. Having to hunt down swimmers is not part of the swim meet experience, so please ensure your child has the abilities to manage their meet before you decide they are self sufficient.
Parents and cheering squad are allowed on deck, please make sure you have clean shoes.
Currently we do not have a fee, but we do depend on your volunteering efforts.
There are 2 main volunteering elements: fundraising and meets.
This is entirely up to you. Consistency is key to improvement and team unity. We have a limited number of spaces so if you are unable to stay please reach out so we can help make the experience positive and fun. Our ultimate goal is to keep the joy in coming to the pool.
For meets, this is also a family decision. There is no requirement to attend meets, but they are a LOT of fun!
You are able to choose which events your seahorse wants to participate in. With help from their coach, you will be able to make the best decisions for your swimmer.
With this in mind, depending on what event(s) you choose; you are able to participate in one or both of the days for a meet.
There are 2 relays during a meet. 200 IM and 200 Freestyle.
Each relay team consists of 4 swimmers, they do not need to be in the same division. The coach will determine who is on the team and what order they swim. Swimmers are not allowed to switch the order that has been set. There are many different reasons why swimmers have been given the stroke or order please respect the coaches decision.
200 IM - each team mate will be assigned one of the 4 strokes and will swim 50m.
200 Freestyle - each team mate will swim 50m Freestyle.
Each swimmer will be awarded individual points in an event if they do not disqualify. The points are cumulative for the teams overall placement at the meet.
This is just a rough idea of what to expect.
Second day only:
